In 2004, I played Capt. Bertorelli ("The Italian Captain with a dead chicken on his head") in 'Allo 'Allo, a Launceston Drama Society (LADS) production. This was a terrific comedy role which also required me to sing the Dean Martin song, "That's Amore". An Italian accent was required throughout the show, with the exception of the scene where Bertorelli is pretending to be Hitler. In that particular part of the play, an Italian's poor attempt at a German accent was required. Some challenge, I can tell you!!!
Later that year, I starred in Camelford Operatic Society's version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's small-time reporter looking for the big break "State Fair" as Pat Gilbert, a and finding love along the way at the annual Iowa State Fair. As well as many chorus singing parts, I had solos and duets in the songs "Isn't it Kinda Fun?" and "The Man I Used To Be". A most enjoyable role, which still makes me smile when I think of the fun we all had during this very low budget production.
